Attainment of COs

Attainment of Course Outcomes

The process of attainment of POs, COs starts from writing appropriate PSOs and COs. PSOs are broader and all inclusive attributes that the student displaysat the end of the specific programme like BA (History) or BSc (Physics). Course outcomes are narrower statements that describe what students are expected to know at the end of each course. Formative assessment (FA) and Summative assessment (SA) are directly employed to determine the attainment of the intended outcomes.

As part of the formative assessment two mid examinations a semester are conducted. Seminar presentations, group discussions, quizzes, assignments, viva-voce are some of the tools of formative assessment varyingly adopted by different departments as per the nature of the curriculum to gauge the attainment of course out comes.

All necessary care is taken so that the efficacy of these tools is utilized to the maximum. The design of question paper is according to Bloom’s taxonomy of educational objectives, so that the tests effectively measure the attainment of course outcomes in all the domains of teaching-learning. Questions are set for testing attainment in the domains of knowledge, understanding and application. When the questions are thus framed the assessment automatically measures the attainment of course and programme out comes. Apart from these direct methods of evaluating the attainment of POs and PSOs and COs , informal and indirect methods are followed by all the faculty to assess attainment of the intended outcomes. The examinations results reflect attainment of course outcomes.
